If its culture is what makes India unique, Rajasthan is one of the finest specimens of its true preservation. One can actually witness the glory of the royalty of India in this princely state, located in the western part. This desert state has witnessed the rise and the fall of several dynasties. Thus, it boasts of being home to numerous historical monuments, sprinkled in all most every part of Rajasthan, which are also a proof of the architectural brilliance of those times.

Chittorgarh fort, located in Chittorgarh, is the largest fort of the country. This fort and the city, every year, play host to a major Rajput festival, ‘Jauhar Mela’. This grandest fort of the state  has witnessed several wars and has related legends of the warriors of the Rajput clan. The fort built in the  shape of a fish has several structures within it and has been ruled by various rulers from the 7th century to the 16th century.

Jaisalmer Fort, Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer fort, located in Jaisalmer, fondly known as Sonar Quila, is set amidst the golden sands of the massive Thar Desert. It was built by Bhati Rajput ruler Rao Jaisal. This fort has witnessed various battles fought in the ancient times. The second oldest fort in the state, along with 4 huge gateways, houses a number of attractions such as  merchant havelis, Raj Mahal, Laxminath Temple, Jain Temples etc.

Amber Fort - Amer (Jaipur)
Amber fort, also known as Amer fort, located in Amer, Jaipur is around 11 kms away from the main city. Built by Raja Man Singh I during the 16th century, situated high on a hill, this fort is one of the main tourist attractions of the capital city of Rajasthan. The architectural structure of this fort is a perfect blend of Rajput and Hindu elements. Divided into four main sections, Amber fort has a number of structures like Sila Devi temple, Ganesh Pol, Diwan-i-Am, Seesh Mala etc.

City Palace, Udaipur
City Palace, located in Udaipur, was built by Maharana Udai Singh in the form of the capital of the Sisodia Rajput clan in 1559, after which he moved from Chittor. The complex of the palace is situated on the east bank of the Lake Pichola and has various palaces built within. The architecture is a blend of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture mannerisms. Since it is placed on a hilltop, it offers an amazing city view. It has several historic monuments like Lake Palace, Jag Mandir, Surya Chopar, Manak Mahal, etc.

Hawa Mahal, Jaipur
Hawa Mahal, located in Jaipur, is also known as The Palace of Winds. The fort was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, in 1799 and was designed by Lal Chand Ustad, as the crown of Lord Krishna. Situated  on a busy street of the city, this palace made of red and pink sandstone, has a unique 5-storey exterior with 953 small-sized Jharokhas (windows). From these windows,  decorated with delicate  latticework, the women of the palace could watch the daily activities of the city as they had to observe face cover ‘Purdah’ .
